Two Training Modules to Choose From

WSU’s Police Academy provides a thorough background for those planning a career in criminal justice. The training consists of two training modules that lead to three law enforcement certifications. Academy instructors and trainers are active professionals in the field of criminal justice and police work. Class sizes are limited and early registration is recommended.

MODULE 1 SPECIAL FUNCTIONS OFFICER (SFO) AND BASIC CORRECTION OFFICER (BCO)

COLLEGE CREDIT AVAILABLE: The following college credit is available to cadets once they complete the Module 1 training. Additional fees apply

Module 2: Law Enforcement Officer (LEO)

PRE-REQUISITE: To be eligible to register for the LEO, the applicant must have successfully completed all the requirements of the SFO. COLLEGE CREDIT AVAILABLE: The following college credit is available to cadets once they complete the Module 2 training. Additional fees apply.

PE 1070, 1 semester hour
PE 1140, 1 semester hour

CERTIFICATIONS

Please note: When hiring, most law enforcement agencies give preference to those who have qualified for certification. If fact, many agencies will not accept applications for a position until the applicant is certifiable.

Special Functions Officers (SFO)

This training will certify you for a position as a:

• Reserve officer
• Court baliff
• Auxillary officer
• Constable

Basic Corrections Officer (BCO)

This training will certify you for a position as a:

• State prison officer
• County jail officer

Law Enforcement Officer (LEO)

This training will certify you as a Law Enforcement Officer with full police powers. You’ll be qualified for postitions as a:

• City police officer
• State highway patrol
• Deputy sheriff
• State Law Enforcement Officer
