The Canary Islands are home to some of the most beautiful locations on the planet: white sandy beaches, rolling green mountains, and even towering volcanoes. While on your study abroad program to this amazing destination you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the Spanish culture both in the classroom at the University of La Laguna and on excursions throughout the islands. You’ll develop a better proficiency in Spanish through interacting with the local people and exploring culturally rich cities. Best of all, you’ll make memories that will last you a lifetime.

The Academics
For participating in this Spanish Study Abroad, you will receive the following 6 credit hours:
- Spanish 3570 – Special Topics in Culture (3)
- Spanish 3850 – Study Abroad (3)
The Faculty
| Dr. Diego Batista | Dr. Batista teaches Spanish for the WSU Department of Foreign Language. He was born and raised in the Canary Islands and has a broad understanding of its people, culture, social, and political infrastructure. Dr. Batista also directed the WSU Study Abroad Program to Costa Rica in 2012. |
The Itinerary

| May 18 – June 6, 2013 | Classes and cultural activities in the Canary Islands including visits to several museums and guided tours. |
The Details
The tentative cost of the program will include:
- Housing
- Some Meals
- Excursions
- All domestic Transportations
- Faculty
The cost does not include your passport, a Visa, if required, international airfare, incidentals, any unscheduled travel, and excess baggage cost.
This program is open to all WSU students, faculty, and staff, as well as students from other universities; however preference will be given to WSU students. Students under 18 must have written approval by a parent/guardian to participate. All participants should have at least Spanish 2020 or equivalent. People in reasonably good health should have little concern for any physical demands. All participants must have a valid passport.

The Fine Print
If the trip is cancelled, all participants will be refunded in full. Any refunds for withdrawal from the program will be determined by the Study Abroad Director according to the recoverability of incurred costs and fees, and according to Continuing Education Policy. Once the group leaves, all costs are non-refundable in their entirety. Dates and prices may change. It is the responsibility of each participant to be aware of any changes by staying in contact with Study Abroad and the program director.
