Fly Tying Basics

Learn fly tying from world-renowned angler Chris Bailey. You will learn how to tie the fly patterns consistent with local rivers, including basic pheasant tails, caddis, hopper patterns, wooly bugger, mosquitoes and streamers.

*Class will also be held on March 5th.

This class will require a basic fly tying kit (available online and at some local sporting goods stores) that consists of the following:

  • Fly tying vice
  • Black thread and bobbin
  • Scissors
  • Hackle pliers
  • Basic hooks in size 16 and 18 nymph
  • Dry fly hooks from size 10-16
  • Streamer hooks
  • Gray and olive dubbing
  • Grizzly and Brown hackle

We will be teaching all of the basic western river flies for all four seasons, including Pheasant tail, scud, midge, Adams, hoppers, streamers, buggers, egg, San Juan worm, zebras, and damselfly.
