Cake Decorating III -- Fondant and Gum Paste

Master a variety of decorating skills as you learn more advanced decorating techniques using fondant and gum paste including quilling, ruffling, ball and rope borders, overlays/inlays, and more. Students are responsible for purchasing their own supplies.

Students are required to bring the following supplies:

  • Disposable cloth or paper towels
  • Cutting tool or small knife (like a pizza cutter)
  • Plastic wrap
  • Parchment paper
  • Toothpicks
  • Solid vegetable shortening (2 tablespoons)
  • Small bottle of water (squeeze bottle recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon EACH of cornstarch and confectioners' sugar for the dusting pouch
  • Small container for gum glue adhesive (made in class)
  • 2 to 3 quart size plastic bags for cleanup
  • Plastic ruler
  • Rolling pin or large fondant roller
  • Container for transporting finished decorations (optional)
  • Plastic gloves (to keep hands from getting stained when coloring fondant)
  • Decorator products: (included in the Wilton How to Decorate with Fondant Shapes and Cut-Outs Kit)

  • Decorating brush
  • 9-inch fondant roller with guide rings
  • Dusting pouch
  • 6 shaped cutters
  • 3 mini fondant cut-outs
  • Fondant shaping foam set and ball tool
  • Decorator Products: (not included in the Wilton Student Kit)

  • Roll-N-Cut Mat (optional)
  • 1 package White Decorator Preferred Fondant (24 oz)
  • 1 package Ready-To-Use Gum Paste (16 oz)
  • 2 - 8 inch cake circles
  • Tapered spatula
  • Gel icing colors
  • The Wilton kit can be found online on Amazon, Wal-Mart,, or at some local craft stores. Students are welcome to bring other sets or kits they may already have.
